OSCA Cadet Organization
  1. 08CA cadet organization is based upon a line battalion within an army infantry division. The central functioning unit will be the platoon as it forms the basis for the advisories around which service learning projects are formed.


  2. The battalion command and staff. All command and staff positions, including assistants, are for one school year. No cadet may hold the same position more than once (for more than one year). Duties and responsibilities are discussed in Annex____.


    1. The battalion commander will be a class senior in the rank of Cadet Lieutenant Colonel. He/she will have two direct assistants and a battalion staff of five to assist him/her in administering the battalion. The battalion commander is the senior cadet member of the 08CA chain of command.


    2. The battalion executive officer will be a class senior in the rank of Cadet Major. The battalion executive officer is a direct assistant to the battalion commander and chief of the five-member battalion staff. When filling in for the battalion commander, the battalion executive officer is a member of the 08CA chain of command.


    3. The battalion command sergeant major will be a class junior in the rank of Cadet 8ergeant Major. The battalion command sergeant major is a direct assistant to the battalion commander.


    4. The battalion S-1 will be a class junior or senior in the rank of Cadet Captain. The battalion S-1 is the administrative officer for the battalion and has one primary staff assistant (assistant S-1). The battalion S-1 is a member of the five-member battalion staff.


    5. The battalion S-2 will be a class senior in the rank of Cadet Captain. The battalion S-2 is the security and information management officer and has two primary staff assistants (assistant S-2, security, and assistant S-2, information technology). The battalion S-2 is a member of the five-member battalion staff.


    6. The battalion S-3 will be a class senior in the rank of Cadet Major. The battalion S-3 is the operations and training officer for the battalion. He/she will have two subordinate staff groupings of two members each. One subordinate staff will assist the S-3 in 08CA operations activities. The other subordinate staff will assist the S-3 in 08CA training activities. The battalion S-3's primary assistant will be the S-3 Air, a class senior in the rank of Cadet Captain (not a member of the five-member battalion staff), whose major role is assisting the S-3 in 08CA daily operations to include off-campus activities. The battalion S-3 is a member of the five-member battalion staff.


    7. The battalion S-4 will be a class senior in the rank of Cadet Major. The battalion S-4 is the supply and logistics officer for the battalion. The battalion S-4 has two primary staff assistants (assistant S-4, clothing records, and assistant S-4, property accountability). The battalion S-4 is a member of the five-member battalion staff.


    8. The battalion S-5 will be a class junior or senior in the rank of Cadet Captain. The battalion S-5 is the public affairs officer for the battalion and has one primary staff assistant (assistant S-5). The battalion S-5 is a member of the five-member battalion staff.


    9. The company commanders will be class seniors in the rank of Cadet Captain. The company commanders lead the companies of the battalion via 08CA policies and directives. The company commanders will have two direct assistants (company executive officer and company fIrst sergeant). Company commanders are members of the OSCA chain of command.


    10. The company executive officers will be class juniors and/or seniors in the rank of Cadet First Lieutenant. The company executive officers are direct assistants of their respective company commanders. When filling in for their respective company commanders, company executive officers are members of the 08CA chain of command.


    11. The company first sergeants will be class sophomores and/or juniors in the rank of Cadet Master Sergeant. The company first sergeants are direct assistants to their respective company commanders.


    12. The platoon leaders will be class juniors in the rank of First or Second Lieutenant. The platoon leaders form the key leadership group for all service learning activities. They lead the platoons of the battalion via OSCA policies and directives. The platoon leaders will have one direct assistant (platoon sergeant). Platoon leaders are members of the OSCA chain of command.


    13. The platoon sergeants will be class sophomores and/or juniors in the rank of Sergeant First Class. The platoon sergeants are direct assistants to their respective platoon leaders.


    14. he squad leaders will be class sophomores in the rank of Staff Sergeant. Squad leaders will lead the squads of the battalion, carrying out operational and administrative activities within their respective squads. Squad leaders are the primary members of the OSCA chain of command.


    15. The team leaders will be class freshmen and/or sophomores in the rank of Cadet Sergeant. Team leaders will assist the squad leaders in fulfilling their operational and administrative responsibilities.


  3. OSCA Color Guard. The OSCA Color Guard is an officially sanctioned organization within the JROTC program. The OSCA Color Guard performs duties at selected events both within OSCA and externally in conjunction with approved civic events. Duties and responsibilities are discussed in Annex____.


    1. The Color Guard Commander will be class sophomore or junior in the rank of Cadet Sergeant First Class. He/she leads the Color Guard and interfaces with the battalion S-5 for assignments and support.


    2. The Color Guard Flag Bearers (two) will be class sophomores and/or juniors in the rank of Cadet Staff Sergeant. They will carry the flags during Color Guard ceremonies.


    3. The Color Guards (three) will be class freshmen and/or sophomores in the rank of Cadet Sergeant. The Color Guards service the Colors.


  4. OSCA Drum and Bugle Corps. The OSCA Drum and Bugle Corps is an officially sanctioned organization within the JROTC program. The OSCA Drum and Bugle Corps performs duties at selected events both within OSCA and externally in conjunction with approved civic events. Duties and responsibilities are discussed in Annex___.The below organization is for OSCA Drum and Bugle Corps authorizations which can fluctuate based upon the size of the cadet corps and qualified, interested corpsmen. Grade structure will depend on the strength of the musical unit and subject to approval by the CPS Deputy DAI.


    1. The Drum and Bugle Corps Commander will be a class junior or senior in the rank of Cadet Captain. He/she leads the Drum and Bugle Corps and interfaces with the battalion S-5 for assignments and support.


    2. The Drum and Bugle Corps Will have two Cadet Lieutenants to assist the Drum and Bugle Corps Commander in leading the corps.


    3. The Drum and Bugle Corps will have two Cadet Master Sergeants to assist the Drum and Bugle Corps Commander in corps administration.


    4. The Drum and Bugle Corps will have two Cadet Sergeants First Class to assist the Drum and Bugle Corps Commander in corps property management.


    5. The Drum and Bugle Corps will have four Cadet Staff Sergeants to assist the Drum and Bugle Corps Commander in corps operations.


    6. The Drum and Bugle Corps will have four Cadet Sergeants to assist the Drum and Bugle Corps Commander in corps management.


    7. The Drum and Bugle Corps will have four Cadet Corporals to assist the Drum and Bugle Corps Commander in corps activities.
