General Information
SUPPLIESSupplies are given out by main office personnel. Please indicate the supplies needed on the Supply Request Form. Do not take supplies without permission. If special supplies are needed, please Indicate your request in writing. HALL PASSES Students are NEVER to be in the hall without a pass. Teachers MUST remember to issue students a pass when they MUST leave the classroom. MAILBOXES Teachers are asked to check their mailboxes at least twice a day and to respond to all correspondence in a timely fashion. REQUESTS FOR THE ENGINEER Teachers in need of special custodial service or who need special repairs, etc. should forward requests in writing to the Principal. FOODS Teachers are to refrain from eating and drinking in their classrooms. All eating and drinking should be confined to the lunchroom during your designated lunch period. WRITTEN CORRESPONDENCE All correspondence (notes, letters, bulletins, etc.) must be approved and initialed by the principal prior to being sent out or posted. BULLETINS As it becomes necessary, information will be disseminated in the form of bulletins. Teachers are requested to keep all bulletins and insert them in the Faculty Handbook. Policy changes should be noted by the teacher alongside the previously printed item in the handbook or by attaching a copy of the bulletin. ASSEMBLIES Assemblies are planned for the benefit of the students. It is the responsibility of the teachers to help monitor student behavior/discipline at all assemblies. Teachers are required to attend all assemblies unless otherwise requested. Dates, times, seating charts, bell schedules, and other pertinent data will be published as part of school bulletins. ORDERING AND DISTRIBUTION OF AN EQUIPMENT Request for all A/V equipment should be made on the Equipment Request Form a day in advance and signed out by Ms. Lubieniecki. Report all damaged equipment to the office immediately. Use of non-educational movies or videos should be cleared with the administration prior to viewing. In addition, all movies and videos far instructional purposes should be written in weekly lesson plans. Be sure to observe copyright laws in your use of video cassettes. Please be sure all equipment is returned at the end of the day. TEXTBOOK DISTRIBUTION Textbooks will be distributed by a Principals designee. No books will be given out without a written request. The rising cost of textbooks has made it imperative that a strict inventory of books be kept. All books must be numbered before they are assigned to students. Every effort must be made to collect money for lost textbooks. STUDENT VALUABLES Students are cautioned not to bring large amounts of money to school. Radios and cameras should be left at home. Students are responsible for their personal property. Beepers/cellular phones are not permitted in school. Disciplinary action will be taken. TRANSFERS Transfers are issued in the counselor's office where the student is given a routine Withdrawal/Release Form to present to each teacher for signature on the day of his/her transfer. All books must be returned to the school. All fees must be paid. FIELD TRIPS Chicago has many interesting and significant places to visit. Classroom participation in educational field trips is encouraged. Field trips should enhance the educational program and should reflect careful planning. Should a trip require additional costs, parent/guardians will be notified. All staff should adhere to the following procedures in planning and conducting field trips:
Educational support personnel are assigned at the discretion of the administration. Duties may include infant lab coverage, morning hall duties, lunchroom duties, duplicating materials, or movement of students. INTERNAL MAIL SERVICE All envelopes mailed through the internal mail must show, in the upper left comer, the name and mail run number of the sending unit (Our mail run number is 46). Envelopes that do not include this information will not be delivered. The purpose of the internal delivery service in Chicago Public Schools is to transmit printed material that pertains to the day-to-day operation of the schools such as official reports, bulletins, requisitions and school correspondence. The internal mail service must not be used to mail printed material regarding activities that are not directly related to school operations such as announcements for professional organizations, social events or ad commercial advertisements. FUNDRAISING Prior written approval of the Principal is required for all fund raising activities. Prior written approval by authorized district personnel is required for all sales with anticipated receipts of $1 ,000.00 or more. All funds raised by student organizations, less actual expenses of the event, must be shared with the school, used to support school activities. STUDENT RECOGNITION Students will be recognized and rewarded for Good Attendance and Scholarship at various times during the school year. Teachers should encourage students to maintain good attendance and good academic records. TIME SHEET/SWIPE CARDS When a teacher or staff member signs in or out, the exact time is to be indicated. Time sheets are official school records subject to audit. Time sheets must never be altered or falsified. Swipe cards should never be issued by anyone other that the person to which they were issued. SMOKING No Smoking is allowed in any office or area accessible to students (BOE Rule). Smoking is not allowed in any government-supported building (State Rule). LOST BOOKS Students must learn that they are responsible for all books issued to them. Teachers are to devise a system so they can keep track of what books are being issued. When students lose books, they must pay for them. Most books have prices in them. If you are unsure of the price, see Ms. Lubieniecki. Debt slips should be written and issued for all lost books. PARENT CONFERENCES Parent conferences should be used to promote better understanding and cooperation between the home and the school. Teachers may request parental conferences to evaluate the progress of a given student in the presence of the parent. Conferences may also be requested for disciplinary reasons or to familiarize the parent with policies, rules, etc. INVENTORIES It is essential that accurate inventories be maintained on all furniture, equipment, teaching materials and textbooks. An inventory containing serial numbers and quantities should be maintained on file in the office. Missing items should be reported to the office immediately. TEACHER PREPARATION PERIODS Teacher preparation periods are to be used for professional planning and preparation parent conferences. Please DO NOT LEAVE THE BUILDING during this time. Use these periods as effectively as possible. TELEPHONES The school office telephones are business phones and should be used by staff and students for emergencies only. We are not staffed for receiving routine messages, but the school will accept messages, but the school will accept messages in cases of emergency. Parents may make appointments for conferences with teachers, the attendance officer, counselor, or the Principal by calling the school office at 534-8960. Telephone conferences are frequently held regarding school work. Afternoon parent conference days are scheduled twice each school year. |
